• 1949 he began performing with Benny Goodmann's Bebop Orchestra
• 1953 he recorded with Art Blakey
• 1957 he became a bandleader and recorded his debut album Palo Congo
• 1967 he moved to Sweden and recorded with Francy Boland-Kenny Clarke big band
